Actress Sanjjanaa Galrani has come out in support of Trisha Krishnan amid the political controversy over her recent appearance with actor-turned-Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay at the Independence Day celebrations in Chennai. Trisha’s presence at the event has attracted political criticism and revived speculation about her relationship with Vijay. Reacting to the debate, Sanjjanaa questioned why a woman was being dragged into a debate which should be primarily about Vijay’s political record. Sanjjanaa’s remarks come days after DMK mouthpiece Murasoli criticised Vijay over Trisha’s presence in the front row at the Independence Day celebrations held on Saturday.
Sanjjanaa questions trolls targeting Trisha
In an interview with India Today, Bigg Boss Season 9 Telugu fame Sanjjanaa slammed those who were focusing more on Vijay and Trisha’s personal equation than his work as a politician. “If you have the guts, then talk professionally about Thalapathy Vijay. Talk about his governance. Why are you talking about a woman?” she said.
Sanjjanaa contended that political rivals should instead criticise the policies, decisions and performance of Vijay and not his personal life. She said it was “extremely sad” how the situation turned out to be. “If it had been a man or a woman, I think, at this point, they are not able to find anything professionally against Thalapathy Vijay.”
In a strongly worded statement, Sanjjanaa added, “When you cannot target a politician politically, you try to find a personal agenda, try to target a personal weakness and try to put them down.”
Trisha deserves respect
She further stood up for and said the actress deserves respect regardless of her relationship status and shouldn’t be judged for her personal choices. “It is very important to respect a woman of any stature. Trisha’s a successful actor who deserves an equal amount of respect. And whatever it is, it’s their personal choice,” she stated.
She concluded that it was wrong to politicise the fact of whether Vijay and Trisha are friends or beyond.
Murasoli targets Trisha
The controversy ratcheted up when Trisha was present at the Independence Day celebrations at Fort St George, where she was seated close to Vijay’s parents. Vijay and Trisha were also seen exchanging ceremonial salutes at the event.
Murasoli questioned the propriety of Trisha’s presence at the official function, tying it to Vijay’s image as Chief Minister in the public eye.
Vijay and Trisha have long been friends, having shared screen space in movies such as Ghilli, Thirupaachi, Kuruvi and Leo.
