Delhi CNG station blast: 3 feared dead, 6 injured as gas tank of truck explodes while refueling

New Delhi: Three people were killed and at least six others were injured after a gas tank of a truck exploded while being refilled at a CNG station in Delhi’s Tikri Kalan on Wednesday, triggering widespread panic in the area, according to the Delhi Fire Service.

Six individuals standing nearby sustained injuries during the sudden blast and were immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment, a fire service officer confirmed.

The Delhi Fire Service received an emergency call regarding the incident at 3:37 pm, prompting officials to dispatch six fire tenders directly to the spot.The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

The exact cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is underway, he said. The incident triggered panic in the area. Fire service personnel carried out necessary precautionary measures at the spot and ensured that the situation was brought under control, the officer said.

Fuel pump worker lay bleeding for over 30 minutes, claims family

For nearly 30 minutes, Manish remained at the fuel pump near Tikri Kalan Metro Station before he could get an ambulance and be rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, his uncle Vijay Prasad said.

“He lay there for half an hour. He had lost so much blood. How could anyone survive?” Prasad told PTI.

Manish, who had been working at the fuel pump for around three years, had reported for his shift at about 2 pm on Wednesday.

The explosion occurred around 2.30 pm or 2.45 pm, his uncle said. Prasad said he was informed over the phone that a cylinder had exploded and that Manish was seriously injured.

“I got a call saying that a cylinder had exploded and Manish was serious. I called my brother, and he, my nephew and several other people came here,” he said. By the time he could be put into the ambulance, he had lost enough blood.
