Arsenal close in on Ezri Konsa Deal: Why Aston Villa defender is a Perfect Fit for Gunners

Arsenal are making significant progress in their pursuit of Aston Villa and England defender Ezri Konsa, with negotiations between the two Premier League clubs now moving towards a possible agreement.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are closing in on a deal for the 28-year-old, with work continuing to finalise the transfer. Importantly, dialogue has taken place at ownership level between the two clubs in an effort to narrow the gap over Konsa’s valuation.

Konsa has been one of Arsenal’s leading defensive targets throughout the summer. The Gunners’ need for reinforcements has become particularly pressing following injuries to William Saliba and Jurriën Timber, leaving Mikel Arteta short of established options at centre-back. Konsa’s versatility is another major attraction, with the England international capable of operating both centrally and at right-back.

Arsenal and Villa closing the valuation gap

The two clubs have previously been apart on Konsa’s valuation. Aston Villa have reportedly placed a figure of around £60 million on the defender, while Arsenal had initially been reluctant to meet that price.

Arsenal’s earlier approach, reported to be worth around £30-35 million, was rejected by Villa. However, negotiations have continued, and the latest discussions suggest that a compromise could now be reached. Reports have suggested a final fee in the region of £50 million plus add-ons, although no agreement has been officially confirmed.

Konsa returned to Villa training following his post-World Cup break on Monday, adding further urgency to the situation. Arsenal are keen to resolve the deal as they prepare for the start of their Premier League title defence.

Why Konsa fits Arteta’s plans

Konsa would offer Arsenal Premier League experience, defensive reliability and positional flexibility. His ability to play centre-back or right-back would give Arteta additional options while Saliba and Timber recover.

The defender has also established himself as an England international and was part of England’s 2026 World Cup campaign. His performances on the international stage further strengthened Arsenal’s interest.

For Villa, however, losing Konsa would represent another significant departure during a busy summer. The club have already seen several important players leave and would need to ensure any sale does not leave Unai Emery’s squad short.

With the transfer window approaching its final stages, negotiations are now at a crucial point. Arsenal appear increasingly confident, but the deal still needs to be completed before Konsa can officially become a Gunner.
