2027 Hyundai Tucson Debuts – Radical New Boxy Design, Bigger Dimensions

Hyundai has taken the wraps off the all-new fifth-generation Tucson in South Korea. Set to enter global markets as a 2027 model, new Tucson represents a significant departure from its predecessor, adopting a much more upright and boxy SUV profile. Along with completely redesigned exteriors, Hyundai has also overhauled the cabin and increased dimensions to improve passenger and luggage space.

New Hyundai Tucson – Bold, Boxy Styling

Current-generation Tucson is known for its distinctive parametric design with sharp creases and integrated lighting elements. With the fifth-generation model, Hyundai has moved in a different direction. New Tucson follows the brand’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy, resulting in a more rugged and squared-off appearance.

At the front, there is a wide horizontal LED light bar extending across the vehicle, accompanied by vertically oriented lighting elements at either end. The bonnet is flatter and positioned higher, while the bumper gets a layered design with a large lower air intake and contrasting silver elements.

Side profile highlights the transformation even more clearly. Tucson now gets almost vertical front and rear sections, squared wheel arches, prominent cladding and sharply defined body panels. A contrasting section around the C-pillar adds some visual separation between the roof and body.

At the rear, Hyundai has incorporated another full-width LED light bar connecting vertically oriented tail lamps. TUCSON lettering is positioned across the tailgate, while the chunky rear bumper continues the SUV’s more rugged design theme.

Bigger Than Before

New Tucson measures 4,700 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm. Compared to its predecessor, overall length has increased by 60 mm, while wheelbase is longer by 30 mm. Width has increased by 40 mm as well.

These larger dimensions are expected to translate into improved cabin space. Hyundai claims second-row headroom has increased by 29 mm. Rear doors can now open up to 83 degrees, compared to 73 degrees previously, making ingress and egress easier.

Completely Redesigned Interior

Changes inside are equally substantial. Instead of the integrated dual-screen arrangement seen on many recent Hyundai models, new Tucson gets a large, portrait-oriented central touchscreen. It runs Hyundai’s latest Pleos infotainment interface and dominates the centre of the dashboard.

A separate slim digital display is positioned high ahead of the driver, while the new two-spoke steering wheel gets a distinctive squared design. Hyundai has also adopted a floating-style centre console, freeing up additional storage space underneath.

The dashboard itself has a clean horizontal layout with ambient lighting extending across the cabin. Other features confirmed for the Korean market include dual wireless smartphone charging and multiple interior colour combinations.

Powertrain Details Yet To Be Announced

Hyundai has not revealed complete engine and platform specifications yet. However, new Tucson is expected to continue with a mix of combustion and electrified powertrains depending on the market.

An updated version of Hyundai’s 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain is expected to be among the major options. Petrol and plug-in hybrid versions could also continue in selected markets. More details regarding power output, fuel efficiency and drivetrain combinations should be announced closer to market launch.

For India, Hyundai has not announced plans for the fifth-generation Tucson yet. If the new-generation model is introduced here, it will bring a substantially different design, larger dimensions and a more technology-focused cabin compared to the outgoing model.

New Design Direction Could Influence Next-Gen Creta

Hyundai appears to be moving towards a more upright and boxy design direction with its latest-generation models. Elements of this approach have already  ,and the fifth-generation Tucson takes it further with its squared proportions, prominent wheel arches and strong horizontal lighting signatures.

This design direction could also influence the upcoming . The new-gen Creta is expected to make its India debut in early 2027, and considering Hyundai’s evolving global design language, it could adopt some of the sharper and more upright styling cues seen on new Tucson. While the two SUVs will continue to have their own identities, Tucson gives us an early indication of where Hyundai’s SUV design philosophy is headed.
