Jharkhand Students Call Off Aug 20 Gherao of CM’s Residence, Hold Firm on CBI Probe Demand

Jharkhand students called off their planned gherao of Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence, scheduled for August 20, a day after the state government announced the cancellation of all recruitment examinations conducted by an outsourced agency since 2014. The JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, which has been leading the agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment exams, had earlier announced the gherao plan and appealed to students across the state to assemble in Ranchi for the demonstration.

As they continue their protest over the pending demand of a CBI inquriy into the alleged irregularities, they have called off the August 20 gherao of Soren’s residence.

Following a meeting of the state cabinet on Monday, CM Hemant Soren announced the decision to cancel the JSSC-CGL exam and recruitment examinations conducted by outsourced agency TSR Data Processing Pvt Ltd since 2014.

While any notification or statement is yet to come from the government, calculations point out that besides about 2,000 JSSC-CGL jobs, also on stake are about 1,000 other jobs through JPSC.

The candidates have demanded a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities and say they are ready to face action if found guilty.

CM Soren has announced an examination reforms committee headed by senior IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal to recommend measures to strengthen the recruitment system besides a probe under a retired High Court judge.
