Diwali gifts cannot be given at government expense
This time the central government has banned the tradition of giving gifts from government expenses on Diwali. The Finance Ministry has given clear instructions that no one will now spend or spend on anything related to the festivals on the festivals, department or government undertaking (PSU) festivals. This decision has been taken to stop the extravagance of government money.
Instructions sent to all departments

In the circular, strict instructions have been given to all ministries, departments, government companies (CPSEs), banks and financial institutions not to give gifts or spends related to festivals and these rules should be strictly followed. This instruction has been described as part of the rules already issued, so that government money can be used only for needs and right reasons.
Government expenses will not cost wasteful expenditure
The government says that this decision has been taken so that misuse of government resources can be stopped and people’s tax money is used correctly and responsibly. According to the Finance Ministry, discipline can be brought in government expenses by banning such wasteful expenses.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also reiterated many times that government money and resources should be used carefully and responsible. This decision is also part of the same thinking, in which transparency and accountability have been given the most importance.

MP supported the verdict
At the same time, political response has also come to this decision of the government. Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora welcomed the move and described it as a commendable initiative on the social media platform X (which was earlier Twitter). He said that till now only selected leaders and officials have been taking advantage of this expenditure in the name of festivals. Deora also said that state governments should also take similar steps and adopt this decision.
