SC to hear NEET PG transparency plea today; counselling dates soon

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India will hear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test  Undergraduate (NEET PG) 2025 petition concerning the transparency of the exam today, September 23. The plea will be heard as several candidates who attempted the paper reported discrepancies in their results, along with score variations from 50 to 150 marks.

As per the petitioners, the NEET PG exam transparency is inadequate and so are demanding to ensure fairness. The apex court earlier directed the NEET PG exam conducting authority, which is the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), to publish the raw scores, official answer key and also explain the normalisation method considered to calculate the result.

SC questions NBEMS over partial disclosure

The Supreme Court questioned NBEMS over its partial compliance with earlier orders on the NEET PG 2025 results. While the court had asked for more transparency in the evaluation process, the board only released question IDs and their corresponding answers. Candidates argue this is not enough to verify whether the results were calculated fairly, as the absence of complete details leaves room for doubts.

During the September 19 hearing, a bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and KV Viswanathan directed that the case be taken up for detailed arguments on September 23. The case has already seen multiple adjournments, including one on September 12, which has delayed the counselling process further.

Impact on NEET PG counselling

The uncertainty around the case has put the national-level NEET PG 2025 counselling on hold. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has yet to release its schedule, awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision. Once the order is passed, the MCC will publish the counselling dates on its official website, mcc.nic.in, where candidates can access and download the PDF schedule.

In the meantime, some states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala have already started their own state-level NEET PG counselling. These independent processes are giving eligible students in those states a chance to secure seats while the national counselling remains pending.
