The first match of the two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Galle starting tomorrow. The pitch here is expected to favor spin bowlers.
Consequently, the decision to include three left-arm spinners in the Indian playing eleven could be made.
Team India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, hinted at this in a statement. Responding to a question about the pitch for the Galle Test, he said, “Judging by the surface, it looks like a good pitch, and I believe it will see some changes as the Test progresses.”
Having three spinners is not a major concern for us. They all have the potential to take 20 wickets for us. Considering the Galle pitch, which is expected to help spinners as the match progresses, going with three spinners is the right way to go. Looking at our spin attack, it’s a very aggressive option.
This bowler could be included alongside Mohammed Siraj.
Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Manav Suthar are likely to be included in the playing eleven for the match starting tomorrow. Morne Morkel has made it clear that in addition to Mohammed Siraj, either Prasidh or Brar could be included in the playing eleven. The Indian team will be looking to win this match and start the series on a winning note.
