Darwin, August 14: The second day of the first Test match between Australia and Bangladesh in Darwin has concluded, with Bangladesh establishing a solid 153-run lead over Australia.
Bangladesh resumed play on day two at 96 runs for the loss of one wicket. The Bangladeshi batsmen showcased exceptional skills, maintaining pressure on the Australian bowlers throughout the day.
Two remarkable innings stood out for Bangladesh. Opener Tanzid Hasan scored 101 runs off 197 balls, marking the highest score by a Bangladeshi batsman on Australian soil. This was Hasan’s first century in just his second Test match.
Additionally, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed significantly with a score of 84 runs. Although he fell short of a century, his innings played a crucial role in securing the lead for Bangladesh.
Mominul Haque scored 49, while Mushfiqur Rahim added 36 runs before getting out. Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains at the crease with 32 runs, alongside Hasan Mahmud, who has 13 runs. By the end of the day, Bangladesh had amassed 351 runs for the loss of six wickets, gaining a 153-run advantage over Australia.
Bangladesh, previously criticized for disappointing batting in the warm-up match, has surprised Australian bowlers with their performance, bringing joy to their cricket fans.
For Australia, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood each took two wickets, while captain Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon claimed one wicket apiece. Australia has utilized eight bowlers so far in this match.
In their first innings, Australia was bowled out for just 198 runs on the first day, with former captain Steve Smith scoring the highest at 71 runs.
