Veteran actor Anil Kapoor has marked 27 years of Subhash Ghai’s musical romantic drama Taal, recalling his portrayal of Vikrant Kapoor as one of his fondest memories and celebrating the film’s enduring connection with audiences.
Sharing a clip from the 1999 film on Instagram Stories, Anil said Taal had a distinctive magic from the beginning, particularly in the way its story used music to express emotions.
“Playing Vikrant Kapoor remains one of my fondest memories. 27 years on, seeing this music and story touch generations is nothing short of incredible,” he wrote.
He also congratulated co-stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshaye Khanna, director Subhash Ghai and the entire team on the film’s lasting journey.
Taal, which starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor, became particularly known for its music and dance sequences.
On the anniversary, Ghai recalled how he approached Aishwarya for the role of Mansi. He said he told the actress that he needed to strip away her existing image for the character and asked her to appear without makeup during the first hour of the film. According to Ghai, Aishwarya agreed to follow his direction.
Ghai also recalled seeking legendary choreographer Saroj Khan’s recommendation while looking for an actress who could convincingly portray Mansi’s dancing abilities. After considering several names, Saroj Khan suggested Aishwarya.
Meanwhile, Ghai has recently revealed that the script for a sequel, Taal 2, is almost complete.
