Shriya Saran opens up about not getting invited for award shows & Awarapan’s flop run –

has opened up about the theatrical performance of  and recalled how disappointing it was to see a film she believed in struggle at the box office. The actress also revealed that despite being nominated for several awards for her work, she was not invited to some of the award ceremonies.

 

Speaking during an interview with Pinkvilla, Shriya reflected on the response to the film when it was released. She said that the team had high hopes for Awarapan, but she felt the film may have been “ahead of its time.” “When the film came out, and we all had lots of hopes with it. But I don’t know why, I think it was ahead of its time,” she said.

Shriya also recalled her experience with the award season surrounding the film. According to the actress, she received nominations but did not receive invitations to attend the ceremonies. “They didn’t send me an invite. It was like that,” she recalled.

For Shriya, the film’s poor theatrical run was particularly difficult because she always felt that Awarapan deserved a better response. She said she believed audiences would connect with the film and celebrate it.

“And Awarapan is a movie which I felt should be celebrated; people will love it. So when something like that happens, you kind of feel very disheartened,” she said.

What made the situation even more confusing for her was the contrast between the film’s box-office performance and the appreciation she continued to receive from viewers. Shriya said people regularly told her that they loved the film, leaving her wondering why that appreciation was not reflected in its numbers.

“And then people kept telling me, ‘We loved the movie, we loved the movie.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, but, like, you know, why is it not translating? Why is it not translating in numbers?’” she said.

Released in 2007, Awarapan has continued to find appreciation among audiences over the years and is now remembered by many as a cult favourite. Now, its sequel,   is finally seems to be finding the box office number at the box office ahead of its release this Friday.
