South Indian actress Anupama Parameswaran has opened up about a difficult past relationship and revealed that it even affected the promotion of one of her successful films, Dragon.
In a recent interview, Anupama said she had gone through what she described as “narcissistic abuse” for nearly two years.
Without naming the person involved, the actress spoke about how such relationships can begin with intense affection and quickly turn controlling.
She said the relationship moved very fast, with discussions about meeting families, engagement and marriage happening within a short period.
Anupama also responded to people who had called her a “gold digger” in the past. She said that if she had not stopped the engagement process, she might have ended up marrying the person and later going through a divorce.
According to her, she eventually realised that what she was experiencing was not healthy love. She also claimed that her former partner wanted her to quit acting.
Anupama said that instead of feeling safe with her partner, she often felt anxious and worried.
She explained that controlling behaviour can become more obvious once the relationship becomes serious and both families are involved, making it harder to walk away.
During the interview, when she was asked for an example of how the control affected her career, Anupama pointed to Dragon.
“Why didn’t I promote a movie like Dragon? That is one of the most successful projects in my career,” she said, indicating that problems in her personal life had influenced her decision to stay away from the film’s promotions.
Her comments quickly triggered speculation on social media.
Some netizens began wondering whether Anupama was referring to actor Dhruv Vikram, with whom she had earlier been linked by rumours. However, Anupama did not name Dhruv or confirm the identity of the person she was speaking about.
Several users also picked up on her references and started connecting them to Vikram and his films, adding further fuel to the speculation.
For now, Anupama has only spoken about her own experience and has not publicly identified her former partner.
