Kangana Ranaut has a love-and-hate relationship with the Hindi film industry, which is popularly called Bollywood. While being a successful actress in movies produced within the fraternity, she is also a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha representing the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In a recent interview, Ranaut took a dig at ‘Bollywood’ for its ‘perpetual obsession’ with Pakistan. Her comment came after she clarified her statement where she called Naseeruddin Shah a ‘lomdi’ for supporting the neighbouring country.

Defending her remark for Naseeruddin Shah, accused the film industry of being ‘hypocritical’. The actress told ANI in the latest interview that movie stars came out in support of protesting students at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, but nobody is speaking up about the Jharkhand protest. She said, “The people in the film industry who shed crocodile tears over the Jantar Mantar protests ought to shed those same tears for the children in Jharkhand now. Those children are facing a plight too.”

Kangana Ranaut questions Bollywood’s ‘love affair’ with Pakistan
Taking a dig at India-Pakistan films, Kangana said filmmakers are answerable for their love for the neighbouring country. “Whether it is their films, their statements, or their interviews, when will this love affair with Pakistan end? They seem perpetually obsessed with Pakistan. I want to know: so many years have passed since Partition, yet why doesn’t this love story come to an end? When will Bollywood’s love story with Pakistan finally conclude? They are answerable for this,” she added.

On Instagram, Kangana took a dig at Naseeruddin and wrote, “Sach toh yeh hai har koi kisi na kisi ka kutta hai, lekin mujhe iss baat ka garv hai ki main jis ghar (desh) ki roti khati hoon uski rakhwali karti hoon/ uske liye ladti hoon, Naseer Saab khaate toh iss desh ka hain lekin laḍte padosi desh keliye hain.”
Kangana’s statement seems to be a dig at ’s latest critically acclaimed and commercially successful love story, Main Vaapas Aaunga. His character in the Imtiaz Ali directorial belongs to Pakistan’s Sargodha, but he has to leave his home and loved ones behind to settle in India after the Partition.

Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, also celebrates the unspoken bond between a Hindu woman and a Muslim family. It is also set against the backdrop of Partition. However, Kangana did not mention these films in particular.
