Neymar recently announced his retirement from international football after Brazil unexpectedly crashed out of the FIFA World Cup 2026 from the Round of 16. There are also doubts over how long he would continue his club career, with him currently playing at Brazilian giants Santos.
He enjoyed the peak of his career at FC Barcelona, where he formed a lethal strike partnership with the legendary Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Now, before retiring in the final days of his career, there is a slim chance that Neymar might reunite with his two most famous teammates.
In a video posted on his official YouTube channel, former Brazil international footballer Felipe Melo confirmed that Neymar will play for Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club that is owned by David Beckham. This is the team where Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are playing in. In fact, he could play there as early as January 2027.
“I spoke with a friend of mine who told me some news about Santos earlier. He told me that Neymar will play in Miami. Neymar will begin playing for Inter Miami as of next January. If that happens, then I am the first to announce the news here. Let’s wait and see what happens,” Melo said on his YouTube channel.
During their time together at Barcelona from 2014 to 2017, Messi, Suarez, and Neymar terrorized European defenses, culminating in a historic continental treble during the 2014-15 season. Their telepathic on-pitch chemistry and close off-pitch friendship yielded a staggering 364 goals across three seasons, cementing their legacy before Neymar’s record-breaking transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
Will Neymar Retire Soon?
Speaking on his future, recently said that he does not know for how long he will carry on. He also said that he does not have a plan of his future after his contract with Santos ends in December 2025.
“I don’t know how long [I’ll keep playing], I’m not thinking about stopping, nor do I know how long I’ll carry on,” Neymar explained on his YouTube channel while attending the Neymar Jr. Institute auction.
“I have a contract with Santos until December. I intend to see it through, to honour the Santos shirt as best I can, and then I’ll think about it when my contract ends – whether I stay at Santos, leave, move on, stop playing or carry on. I really don’t know what I’m going to do. There’s still a long way to go until December, so let’s take it one step at a time,” he added.
