Hardik Pandya wanted captaincy at this IPL team, but franchise said no! Now what will happen with his MI exit plan?

Hardik Pandya Trade: The Hardik Pandya trade rumour has taken a U-turn after he was exploring options with other franchises since there is an uncertainty of his future with the 5-time IPL winners.

According to the reports, Gujarat Titans has rejected Pandya’s trade deal.

Why GT rejected the deal?

Both Hardik and GT were associated in 2022 and 2023, where Hardik as a skipper won the title for them in their inaugural season. Hardik was in favour to return in the franchise but GT eventually rejected the deal. According to reports, one of source said ‘The franchise was fully prepared to take him back.

They even spoke with current captain Shubman Gill about this, and he agreed to trade Hardik back. But when Hardik put forward the condition of handing over the captaincy again, everyone in the franchise and team management flatly refused.’

Torrid season for Mumbai Indians

The 2026 IPL was not good for the 5-time winners as they only won 4 matches out of 14 matches and finished 9th in the points table. Things hasn’t been same for Hardik and MI fans since he took over Rohit Sharma as a skipper of the side in 2024. Hardik’s return turned out to be worst for Mumbai by which, the MI-management is not at all happy with his performance and looking for his replacement.

Hardik in talks with several franchises

Apart from GT, Hardik is in talks with various other franchises. The most notable talks is going on with Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. However, amid all these reports and speculation, Hardik’s spokesperson has dismissed reports of direct talks with the franchises.

The spokesperson said, ‘There have been no direct discussions with any franchise regarding Hardik Pandya’s transfer or trade. If any such initiative has been taken, it has been done directly through the Mumbai Indians franchise.’
