Gold Prices Surge For Sixth Straight Session
had already recorded a strong run in the previous trading session. On Tuesday, the precious metal gained Rs 1,200 to reach Rs 1,57,200 per 10 grams in the Delhi bullion market, marking its highest level in two months. The All India Sarafa Association said 99.9 per cent purity gold had closed at Rs 1,56,000 per 10 grams on Monday. Tuesday’s increase took the metal Rs 1,200 higher. Gold had advanced for six consecutive trading sessions, adding Rs 9,800, or 6.65 per cent, during that period.
The precious metal had last traded around these levels on June 12, when the rate was Rs 1,56,900 per 10 grams. In international markets, spot gold was trading 0.38 per cent lower at $4,373.43 per ounce on Tuesday.
Gold Futures Also Gain On Fresh Buying
Gold futures also recorded gains during Tuesday’s session. The October delivery contract on the MCX rose Rs 1,501, or 0.98 per cent, to Rs 1,54,600 per 10 grams. A total of 1,332 lots were traded in the contract.
In New York, gold prices gained 0.35 per cent to $4,406.15 per ounce. Market experts attributed the rise in futures to fresh buying by traders and firm demand in the spot market.
Gaurav Garg, Head of Research at Lemon Markets Desk, said investors were turning to gold as a safe-haven asset ahead of key US inflation data. The figures are expected to provide further clues about the Federal Reserve’s approach to interest rates.
Praveen Singh, Head of Commodities at Mirae Asset Sharekhan, noted that spot gold had earlier moved up to $4,435 per ounce before retreating as crude oil prices increased.
US Inflation Data, Crude Prices In Focus
The next major trigger for bullion markets is the US consumer price report scheduled for Wednesday, followed by producer price data on Thursday. Saumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst-Commodities at HDFC Securities, said the upcoming data could provide fresh signals on the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy direction.
At the same time, developments surrounding crude oil and geopolitical tensions are adding another layer of uncertainty for investors. Crude prices have climbed amid the continuing standoff over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also claimed that the US was preparing for military action and said the IRGC had been instructed to remain prepared.
