List of Rohit Sharma’s international centuries by opposition

Rohit Sharma rose through the ranks of Indian cricket, starting his career as a middle-order batter before reinventing himself as an opener, a move that transformed his game and unlocked his true potential.

Over time, he became a regular across all formats and went on to lead India.

He has since retired from Tests and T20Is but continues to be active and even captain the ODI side. Across formats, Rohit has played 499 matches so far, scoring over 19,700 runs with 49 international centuries, including the highest-ever individual score in ODIs, 264. His centuries against various oppositions tell the story of his dominance in world cricket. Afghanistan – 2 centuries

 Against Afghanistan, Rohit has scored two centuries, one in ODIs and one in T20Is. In the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, he smashed 131 runs off just 84 balls to guide India to a successful chase. Earlier, in T20Is, he produced a brilliant unbeaten 121 from 69 balls in a thriller that went into two Super Overs, with India eventually emerging victorious.

Australia – 9 centuries

 Australia has been one of Rohit’s favourite opponents, with nine centuries against them, eight in ODIs and one in Tests. His first double-century, an iconic 209, came against Australia, setting the tone for his stature as an ODI giant. In Tests, he struck a solid 120 in Nagpur to help India win by an innings, showing his adaptability in red-ball cricket too.

Bangladesh – 3 centuries

 Rohit has three ODI centuries against Bangladesh, all in major tournaments. In the 2015 World Cup quarterfinal, he scored 137 to send India into the semifinals. Two years later, in the 2017 Champions Trophy semifinal, he scored an unbeaten 123 to power India into the final. Again, in the 2019 World Cup, his 104 against Bangladesh highlighted his sublime form in that tournament.

England – 8 centuries

 England has also faced the brunt of Rohit’s brilliance, with him scoring eight centuries across formats, one in T20Is, three in ODIs and four in Tests. His unbeaten 100 in T20Is sealed a series win, while his ODI centuries were key to India’s dominance in bilateral clashes. In Tests, his 127 at The Oval in 2021 stands out as one of his finest overseas knocks, guiding India to victory in England.

New Zealand – ODI (2)

 Against New Zealand, Rohit has two ODI centuries. His first came in Kanpur in 2017, a match-winning 147 that helped his side clinch the series. In early 2023, he struck 101 at home to complete a whitewash of the touring Tom Latham-led side.

Pakistan – ODI (2)

 The opportunities against arch-rivals Pakistan have been limited, but the Nagpur-born has made them count with two ODI centuries. In the 2018 Asia Cup Super Four clash, he scored an unbeaten 111 to seal a comfortable chase. The following year, in the 2019 World Cup, he smashed 140 to set up a comprehensive 89-run win for the Men in Blue. Rohit was also India’s highest run-getter in that World Cup, held in England and Wales.

South Africa – T20I (1), ODI (3), Test (3)

 Rohit has seven centuries against South Africa, one in T20Is, three in ODIs and as many in red-ball internationals. In 2015, he struck 106 in a T20I even though India ended up on the losing side. His ODI centuries were crucial in India’s bilateral success, while in Tests he dominated with three tons, including a majestic 212 in Ranchi that helped India win by an innings.

 Sri Lanka has been on the receiving end of some of Rohit’s most iconic knocks. He has scored eight centuries against them, six in ODIs, one in Tests and one in T20Is. Among these, two stand out in cricketing history, his record-breaking 264, the highest score in ODI cricket, and his unbeaten 208, which marked his third career double-hundred and second against Sri Lanka.

 The West Indies, too, have suffered from Rohit’s consistency, with him scoring seven centuries, three each in Tests and ODIs and one in T20Is. His unbeaten 111 in a 20-over encounter powered India to a series whitewash, while his centuries in the longer formats consolidated India’s dominance over the Caribbean side, with the latest one coming in 2023.

Zimbabwe – ODI (1)

 Finally, Zimbabwe was the team against which Rohit scored his maiden ODI century in 2010. Batting in the middle order, he made 114, though India ended up losing the match. Still, it was the beginning of a remarkable century-making journey.
