BCCI suspends Tim David for RCB’s opening match in IPL 2027

The decision was announced on Monday, with the batter also being fined 50 percent of his match fee and two demerit points for a Level 1 offence. He was found guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with throwing a ball or any other item at or near a player, match referee, umpires and team officials dangerously.

The incident happened in the 10th over of the first innings. David threw an ice bag towards Nitin Menon after a fall of a wicket.

He accepted the sanctions levelled by match referee Javagal Srinath. While he was fined and penalised, the consequences were severe because it was David’s third Level 1 offence of the 19th season. One demerit point was added to his record in Match 20 and two more in game No. 54. Overall, he accumulated five demerit points for the season, leading to one match suspension under the IPL rules.

As a result, he will not play in RCB’s first match in IPL 2027. If he joins a new team in the next season, he will still serve a game ban.

The punishment was handed out at a time when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their second consecutive IPL title by defeating the Gujarat Titans in the final on May 31. However, David, who was one of the best performers for the Bengaluru-based outfit, is set to be sidelined from one contest.
