Two schoolgirls from Maharashtra have caught the attention of netizens after exposing the poor condition of roads in their village through a satirical video.
The girls, from Kondivde village in Karjat taluka of Raigad district, recorded a mock news report highlighting the state of a local road. Holding umbrellas as microphones, they delivered a witty commentary while navigating the pothole-ridden stretch.
“This road is just like an expressway. Vehicles glide by so smoothly that even the water in your stomach wouldn’t spill! You can see the road for yourselves. Is the road inside a pothole, or is the pothole inside the road? Reporting with cameraman Manasi Pawar, this is reporter Neha Ghare,” one of the girls said in the video.
The clip has since gone viral on social media, with many users criticising the government and local administration over the condition of the road.
One user wrote, “If the village sarpanch, panchayat samiti member and district council member hadn’t taken their cuts, the road would have turned out quite well.”
Another user urged young people across the country to upload similar videos to draw attention to civic issues. “All students of government and private schools should upload videos showing poor infrastructure or any shortcomings in their schools. Flood the internet,” the user commented.
Praising the students, another netizen wrote, “This is what real Gen Z looks like. Strong performance and an effective message.”
While one user blamed Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, another defended him, saying, “Your local leaders are responsible for this road. Nitin Gadkari is a Union minister. He is responsible for highways.”
According to reports, local authorities have carried out temporary patchwork repairs at certain locations. However, residents say it has become an annual monsoon ritual, as freshly filled potholes are often washed away after one or two spells of heavy rain.
