The Asmita UT Basketball League for Senior Women was officially commenced at the Gindun Sports Complex, Srinagar, with 12 teams from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir participating in the championship.
The championship was inaugurated by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council. The event is being organised by the J&K Basketball Association (JKBA) under the aegis of Khelo India Division of the Sports Authority of India, in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council.
As many as 12 matches were played on the opening day, with teams from Reasi, Jammu, Rajouri and KIC Srinagar putting up impressive performances in their respective pools.
Addressing the gathering of players, officials, parents and spectators, Nuzhat Gul assured the basketball fraternity of continued support and said that efforts would be further strengthened to promote the sport across the far-flung districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Aman Sharma, General Secretary, JKBA, thanked the J&K Sports Council and the Srinagar District Basketball Association for their support in organising the championship.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Krupali Singh, Divisional Sports Officer (Kashmir), Narul Islam, President, Private Schools Association, Dr Vikram Handa, President, JKBA; Ashok Singh Jamwal, Senior Vice-President, JKBA; Sushma Jamwal, Chairperson, Selection Committee, JKBA and Faizal Hameed, Treasurer, JKBA.
