Electric two-wheelers crossed the two lakh unit mark for the first time, while EVs accounted for a record 11.24% share of India’s two-wheeler market
India’s electric two-wheeler market continued its rapid expansion in July 2026. As per FADA retail registration data, electric scooter and motorcycle sales crossed the 2 lakh unit milestone for the first time, reaching 2,04,362 units. This translated to an 88.32% year-on-year (YoY) growth over 1,08,516 units sold in July 2025. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis as well, registrations improved by 4.82% compared to 1,94,963 units in June 2026.
The strong performance also pushed electric vehicles to a record 11.24% share of the , up from 10.59% in June 2026 and 7.65% in July 2025. Petrol-powered two-wheelers still dominated with an 88.67% share, while CNG/LPG continued to account for only 0.09% of total registrations.

Electric 2W Retail Sales July 2026
TVS Motor retained its position as the country’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer with 55,499 retail registrations in July. Sales jumped 135.24% YoY compared to 23,592 units in July last year, while also growing 17.03% MoM from 47,421 units in June. TVS accounted for over 27% of all electric two-wheelers retailed during the month.
Bajaj Auto continued to strengthen its position in second place with 45,613 units, driven by sustained demand for the Chetak range. Sales increased 121.89% YoY over 20,557 units, while also posting a healthy 4.84% MoM improvement from 43,507 units.

Ather Energy remained the third-largest electric two-wheeler brand with 30,357 units. While retail sales grew 70.22% YoY, registrations declined 3.46% MoM from 31,445 units in June. Hero’s Vida brand continued its steady growth with 22,900 units, registering 111.35% YoY growth and a 4.59% MoM increase. Ola Electric, however, remained under pressure, with retail registrations falling to 14,106 units, down 23.54% YoY and 13.19% MoM.
River, BGauss Continue Fastest Growth
Among the smaller players, Greaves Ampere, River and BGauss continued to expand rapidly. Greaves Ampere retailed 10,125 units, recording 137.34% YoY growth, although sales declined 7.43% compared to June. River posted one of the strongest performances in the industry, with retail registrations rising to 5,954 units, reflecting 254.40% YoY growth and a healthy 33.83% MoM increase.

BGauss also delivered impressive numbers, retailing 5,518 units, up 212.99% YoY while registering 38.82% MoM growth. The “Others” category contributed 14,290 units, growing 49.81% YoY, although registrations declined 5.27% compared to June.
EV Adoption Continues To Accelerate
Crossing the 2 lakh monthly retail milestone and achieving an 11.24% market share marks another important milestone for India’s electric two-wheeler industry. With festive season demand approaching and manufacturers continuing to expand their product portfolios and retail networks, EV penetration is expected to improve further over the coming months.
While challenges such as financing, raw material costs and supply chain fluctuations remain, the current growth trend suggests electric two-wheelers are steadily becoming a mainstream choice for Indian buyers rather than a niche alternative.
