Thalapathy Vijay’s successful political entry has left many wondering if other big Tamil actors will take the same path. The latest name which is being linked to politics is that of Dhanush.
It all started after his father, Kasthuri Raja commented on the possibility of the Kara actor joining politics. While he did not say a direct yes, he neither denied it as well, leaving fans guessing.
What Did Kasthuri Raja Say About Dhanush Entering Politics?
Kasthuri Raja, who was attending a private event in Chennai, was asked if there were chances of Dhanush entering politics one day. According to ETimes, the veteran director replied by saying that anyone can enter politics if they want. He further added that not only his children but his grandchildren also have their options open and can take the said path in future.
Kathuri Raja’s reported comments have hinted that the possibility of Dhanush joining politics is still pretty much open. The die-hard fans of the actor are expected to react strongly.
Tamil Actors Who Entered Politics
Tamil cinema and politics have always shared a close bond. Legendary stars like MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa successfully moved from films to politics and later became Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu.
The biggest recent example is Thalapathy Vijay. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as a major political force in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in May 2026, marking a historic moment in the state’s political history.
Apart from Vijay, actors like Kamal Haasan, Vijayakanth and Sarathkumar have also entered politics.
Dhanush’s Work Front
Dhanush currently has a packed lineup of films across different genres. His last release was Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja. It is currently streaming on . The actor is also working on D55, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. The film recently made headlines after actor Indrans confirmed that he will be part of the project alongside Dhanush and Mammootty.
Apart from this, Dhanush has films like D56 with director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu and D57 with Mari Selvaraj in the pipeline. His long-awaited sequel Vada Chennai 2 has also been announced.
Dhanush also had a very busy 2025 on the film front. He released three major films, the action-drama Kuberaa, the rural family drama Idli Kadai, and the romantic musical Tere Ishk Mein. He also released his third directorial venture, Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam.
