India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the rest of The Hundred tournament after suffering a hamstring injury. She was playing for the Southern Brave in the England-based competition.
This injury also puts her spot in the upcoming Women’s T20 Asia Cup in doubt, creating a major headache for the Indian women’s team just weeks before the tournament begins.
The Southern Brave management confirmed the news on Saturday, August 8. They announced that Australian all-rounder Charli Knott will step in to replace Rodrigues for the remainder of the season. Knott, who also plays for the Brisbane Heat in Australia, is known for her right-handed batting and off-spin bowling.
Sharing the update on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the Southern Brave wrote: “We can confirm that due to an injury suffered by Jemimah Rodrigues, we’ve signed Charli Knott as our injury replacement for the remainder of The Hundred. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Jemi”.
Before her injury, the 25-year-old Indian star was having a strong tournament. She scored a total of 143 runs across six innings for the Brave. Her highest score was an unbeaten 42. She also boasted a solid batting average of 35.75 and a quick strike rate of 131.19. Her ability to keep the scoreboard moving was a big part of the team’s game plan, and her absence will be heavily felt by the Southern Brave franchise.
However, the biggest concern is now for the Indian team. The highly anticipated Women’s T20 Asia Cup is scheduled to start on August 28. India will play their opening match against Thailand on August 30. Rodrigues is a central piece of India’s batting lineup, known for bringing stability to the middle order and guiding the innings during crucial pressure moments.
The medical team will likely monitor her recovery closely at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. If she cannot recover in time, Indian selectors will have to quickly name a replacement for the important continental tournament, forcing them to alter their strategy right before their opening match.
