Several automakers are preparing to launch new hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUVs in India through the rest of 2026. These range from strong-hybrid options from established brands to plug-in hybrids offering long combined range
Renault Duster Hybrid
Renault Duster Strong Hybrid is expected to launch in India around the Diwali festive season of 2026. It is likely to use a 1.8 litre petrol engine paired with a 1.4 kWh battery, with a combined output of around 160 hp. Petrol versions of the new Duster have already been launched, with the hybrid variant to follow later.
Kia Sorento
Kia India is expected to introduce the Sorento as its first hybrid model in the country, also around the Diwali period. The three-row SUV is likely to use a 1.5 litre strong hybrid powertrain for the Indian market, though global versions run a more powerful 1.6 litre TGDi petrol hybrid setup. Official pricing has not been announced.
BYD Seal U DM-i
BYD is preparing to enter India’s plug-in hybrid segment with the Seal U DM-i, sold as the Sealion 6 in several overseas markets. The SUV is expected to arrive before the end of 2026, though BYD has not officially confirmed a launch date. Reports suggest pricing could start around Rs 45 lakh and go up to Rs 50 lakh for the top variant, positioning it as a rival to the Jetour T2.
MG’s plug-in hybrid SUV
MG Motor India is expected to launch a new three-row SUV, likely badged Starlight 560, around August 2026, ahead of a wider release before Diwali. The plug-in hybrid version combines a 1.5 litre petrol engine with an electric motor, offering a claimed electric-only range of 100 km and a combined range of up to 1,100 km. Pricing is estimated at around Rs 30 lakh.
Jetour T2
JSW Motors is preparing to launch the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid SUV by Diwali 2026, assembled locally in Maharashtra. It is estimated to be priced between Rs 25 and 30 lakh. The SUV is claimed to offer a combined range of up to 1,200 km, including 139 km on electric power alone, using a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 26.7 kWh battery.
