Bollywood megastar Salman Khan and his sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri are once again embroiled in legal trouble, with a Chandigarh District Court issuing summonses in a significant INR 3 crore cheating complaint. The case, which revolves around a Being Human jewellery franchise, has also implicated directors of Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd, the company licensed to market Being Human jewellery. All parties have been directed to appear before the court on October 5, 2026.
Chandigarh District Court Summons Salman Khan, Alvira Khan
The summons, issued as a pre-cognisance notice by Judicial Magistrate Dr Ambika Sharma, follows a complaint filed by Chandigarh-based businessman Arun Gupta. Gupta alleges that he invested approximately INR 3 crore to establish a Being Human jewellery showroom in Manimajra, Chandigarh, under the assurance of strong business prospects.
Gupta’s complaint details that he entered into an agreement with Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd in 2018, the company holding the license to sell jewellery under the ‘Being Human’ brand. He claims to have spent over ₹1 crore on setting up the showroom and fulfilled all contractual obligations. A key promise, according to Gupta, was that Salman Khan himself would inaugurate the showroom; however, the event was eventually attended by Khan’s brother-in-law, actor Aayush Sharma, in November 2018.
Allegations of Unfulfilled Promises and Financial Losses
The businessman further alleges that after the showroom commenced operations, the promised business support from the company never materialised. A critical aspect of his complaint is that the designated outlet responsible for supplying Being Human jewellery reportedly ceased operations in February 2020. This closure led to irregular jewellery supply, severely disrupting his store’s functioning and resulting in substantial financial losses, which Gupta claims amount to several crores.
Gupta’s complaint also accuses six other individuals associated with Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd of misrepresenting the business opportunity and inducing him to make the significant investment. The ongoing legal battle is a criminal complaint rather than a civil claim, and the allegations have yet to be tested in court.
Company’s Stance and Previous Denials
This dispute first gained public attention in July 2021 when Chandigarh Police had summoned Salman Khan, Alvira Agnihotri, and others for questioning. At that time, Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd issued a statement denying direct involvement of Salman Khan or the Being Human Foundation in the 2018 agreement with Gupta.
The company has consistently maintained that Salman Khan is solely the owner of the ‘Being Human’ brand and not a trustee of the Being Human Foundation. It stated that the responsibility for manufacturing, marketing, and sales of the jewellery business rested entirely with Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd, which was appointed as the global licensee by ‘Being Human – The Salman Khan Foundation’ in December 2015. The company’s position is that the matter is exclusively between Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd and Modern Jewels (Arun Gupta’s company), with neither Salman Khan, Alvira Khan, nor the Foundation being parties to the Memorandum of Understanding.
As the legal proceedings move forward, all eyes will be on the Chandigarh District Court for the next hearing scheduled on October 5, 2026, where the accused are expected to respond to the allegations.
