Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash starrer Ramayana is all set for a grand theatrical release this Diwali. But there’s some change in plan. The Nitesh Tiwari directorial will be released in the international markets on November 6, 2026, however, producer Namit Malhotra has clarified that the film will have a different release date in India. Ramayana’s India release date change: When is the film coming out?

will not open in Indian theatres on November 6, says producer Namit Malhotra. He clarified that the movie is slated to hit the screens on November 8, 2026, coinciding with the Diwali celebrations in India. But the international release is scheduled for November 6, 2026.

The two-day gap was due to international distribution schedules, Malhotra told NDTV. “It (Ramayana) will release in India on Diwali,” he said. The release overseas is Friday, November 6. Malhotra added, “So we are releasing internationally on November 6. The international distribution works from a Friday standpoint, so that’s why it’s releasing on the 6th of November. But in India, we are currently targeting the Diwali release”

This means that in India, Ramayana will release on the occasion of Diwali.

Why is Ramayana releasing first outside India?

The international release is set to coincide with the global theatrical calendar. Friday the 6th of November means Ramayana can begin its global international run from the weekend itself.

The film will release in India on November 8, two days after, with the makers eyeing the Diwali holiday season. The strategy also could provide a robust festive opening to the epic in the domestic market and let the international audiences take in the epic from November 6.

What is Ramayana all about?

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari,  is a major cinematic adaptation of the Hindu mythological epic. The first trailer dropped in July 2026, where Yash is seen as Ravana, proclaiming himself the king of the three worlds and creating havoc. Then the story proceeds with Lord Vishnu taking avatar as Rama to restore the balance. The trailer shows Ram’s early life and marriage with Sita, and how the 14 years of exile change their lives when Sita gets kidnapped by Ravana. Thus begins Lord Ram’s battle between good and evil.

Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Ranbir Kapoor is Ram and Ravie Dubey is Lakshman. The film also stars Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi and many others.

Ramayana will be a two-part cinematic saga. The first part will be released on Diwali 2026, and the second will arrive on Diwali 2027.
