Delhi Rain Havoc: Parking Wall Collapses In Deoli’s New Basti; Over 10 Cars Damaged

Following heavy rainfall in the national capital, a wall of a private parking lot collapsed on Saturday in the New Basti area of Deoli in South Delhi, damaging around 10 vehicles.

No casualties have been reported so far.

According to reports, the wall gave way due to the heavy downpour in Delhi. The damaged vehicles include several brand-new cars as well as others that are two to four years old.

Excavation and utility work had been carried out by the Delhi Jal Board and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) just two days prior.

According to a local resident, he told news agency ANI, “Around 8-10 vehicles were damaged. Work was underway behind the area; the entire lane had been dug up, and the wall collapsed due to water accumulation. We have been parking here for around eight years and have never faced such a problem before. This is the first time an incident like this has happened. The MCD work has not been done properly. The lanes have been dug up, the sewers are full, and there is no proper drainage during the monsoon. Incident happened because the water could not drain properly.”

The incident left multiple cars crushed under the debris, resulting in severe financial losses for vehicle owners.

Heavy rain lashed throughout the day on Friday, with flooding reported in several NCR districts. According to the IMD, there is a possibility of very light to light rain at many places on Saturday, with moderate rain at isolated places from early hours to noon. Another spell of very light to light rain is possible at many places in the evening and night.
