Mithun Chakraborty Hospitalised, Undergoes Surgery In Kolkata – West Bengal CM Visits Veteran Actor

Mithun Chakraborty has been hospitalised in Kolkata. The veteran actor is currently recovering following a minor surgery. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met the actor-turned-politician on Friday, as news about his health spread across the industry and his fandom. Adhikari shared a post about meeting Mithun Da at the private hospital on his social media handle, along with pictures with the superstar-politician. In the photos, one can see Chakraborty lying on the bed and recuperating. Adhikari also spoke to the medical team treating Chakraborty and inquired about his condition during his visit.

Adhikari tweeted details of his visit, posting pictures of his meeting with the veteran actor, who was resting in his hospital room following the medical procedure. The CM wrote on his Facebook profile, “Renowned film actor and one of the members of the Central Committee of BJP, Mithun Chakraborty, is admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata due to physical illness. I went to the hospital to meet him today. I spoke to him and took information about his physical condition. I pray to the merciful God for his speedy recovery.”

Adhikari later spoke to the media and revealed that Chakraborty underwent a minor surgery on Thursday night. According to IANS, the Chief Minister said, “He did not want publicity over the development. He is doing well. Will be released soon.” Adhikari added, “His identity is beyond just his political life. His contribution behind the beginning of a nationalist government in West Bengal is immense. A small operation was performed. He is doing well now.”

Mithun Chakraborty is one of the most celebrated actors of Indian cinema, with a career spanning over five decades. He made his debut with Mrigayaa (1976), winning the National Film Award for Best Actor. Disko Dancer (1982) brought him to national fame and became a global phenomenon. Over the years, he has starred in hits like Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Agneepath, Ghulami, Guru and The Kashmir Files, winning several Filmfare and National Awards. Mithun gained immense popularity on television as the Grand Master of the dance reality show Dance India Dance for a long time and later appeared as a judge in many entertainment and talent-based reality shows.

One of Indian cinema’s most celebrated actors, Mithun Chakraborty, has also been an active politician in the last decade. He was earlier a Rajya Sabha member of the Trinamool Congress before resigning from Parliament in 2016 citing health reasons. He later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and became one of its prominent campaigners in West Bengal, playing an active role in election campaigns including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls.
