Kharge emphasized that they are raising legitimate questions concerning the nation and its 1.4 billion citizens. He reiterated the call for both the Home Minister and the Prime Minister to come to the house. He urged the chairman to direct the Home Minister to provide a statement, expressing their readiness for discussion. He recalled that Arun Jaitley had previously stated that disruptions are part of parliamentary democracy, allowing any questions related to proceedings to be raised. However, he noted that when they pose legitimate questions, the government seems to evade them.
Criticism of Parliamentary Affairs Minister
Kharge criticized Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju’s earlier comments and referenced Jaitley’s remarks on obstructing parliamentary work. In response, Rijiju stated that Kharge did not cite any rules to support his demands and insisted that the opposition cannot dictate proceedings or determine which minister from the government will respond. He pointed out that the opposition leader failed to reference any rules and cannot instruct the presiding officer, emphasizing that it is the collective responsibility of the government.
Chairman’s Directive to Communicate Opposition’s Concerns
Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan instructed Rijiju to convey the opposition’s concerns to the Home Minister. CPI MP P. Santosh Kumar hailed this directive as a victory for the opposition, stating that it is a significant win for them. He noted that they had been consistently demanding Amit Shah’s presence to address the police action that occurred on July 20, and now, finally, the chairman has directed Rijiju to communicate the opposition’s stance to the Home Minister. They are eagerly awaiting a response.
