India’s teenage badminton sensation Tanvi Sharma continued her impressive form on the BWF World Tour by securing a hard-fought victory over compatriot Shriyanshi Valishetty to reach the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Korea Masters 2026 in Asan on Thursday.
The 17-year-old overcame a stern challenge to register a 21-16, 17-21, 21-13 win in a match that showcased the depth of India’s emerging women’s singles talent.
The victory also set up another all-Indian clash in the last eight, where Tanvi will take on Rakshitha Ramraj, who defeated Japan’s Manami Suizu 22-20, 21-10.
Tanvi Overcomes Early Resistance in Three-Game Contest
The opening game was far from straightforward for Tanvi, who found herself trailing in the early exchanges as Shriyanshi dictated the rallies with precise placement and patient shot selection.
However, the teenager gradually settled into her rhythm, using quick footwork and attacking strokes to wrest control of the contest. Once she found her range, Tanvi strung together crucial points to claim the first game 21-16.
Shriyanshi responded strongly in the second game, raising the pace of the rallies and forcing Tanvi into several unforced errors. The momentum shifted as Shriyanshi maintained her composure in the closing stages to level the match with a 21-17 victory.
With a quarterfinal berth at stake, Tanvi elevated her game in the decider. She dominated the rallies with her trademark attacking intent, opening up a healthy lead before comfortably sealing the deciding game 21-13.
All-Indian Quarterfinal Awaits
Tanvi’s reward is another all-Indian encounter against Rakshitha Ramraj, ensuring India will have at least one women’s singles semifinalist at the Korea Masters.
Rakshitha secured her place in the last eight with a straight-games victory over Japan’s Manami Suizu, edging a closely fought opening game before cruising through the second.
The upcoming quarterfinal presents an intriguing contest between two of India’s promising young shuttlers, both eager to continue their impressive runs in Asan.
As the Korea Masters enters its business end, all eyes will now be on the all-Indian quarterfinal, with Tanvi Sharma aiming to extend her remarkable run and move one step closer to another international title.
