Trinidad, August 6: Pakistan secured an impressive 8-wicket victory over the West Indies on the fourth day of the second Test match held at Queens Park.
This win allowed the visiting team to level the two-match series at 1-1. Previously, the West Indies had claimed the first match by 90 runs.
Winning the toss, the West Indies opted to bat first and scored 344 runs in their first innings. Captain Roston Chase formed a crucial partnership of 96 runs for the sixth wicket with Justin Greaves. Chase scored 70 runs, while Greaves contributed 73 runs. Additionally, Brandon King added 46 runs to the total. For Pakistan, Sajid Khan was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets, while Mohammad Ali, Ubaid Shah, and Ali Usman each claimed 2 wickets.
In response, Pakistan posted 387 runs in their first innings, gaining a lead of 43 runs. Abdullah Shafique, alongside captain Babar Azam, built a solid third-wicket partnership of 183 runs, putting the team in a commanding position. Babar scored 88 runs with 11 boundaries, while Shafique remained unbeaten at 160 runs, hitting 18 boundaries. For the West Indies, Jomel Warrican took the most wickets, finishing with 6, while Shamarh Brooks added 2.
In their second innings, the West Indies crumbled for just 117 runs in 46.1 overs. Tagenarine Chanderpaul (17) and Kaveem Hodge (34) managed to form a 40-run opening partnership. However, once this partnership was broken, the team collapsed, with only five batsmen reaching double digits. Injured Brandon King did not bat in this innings. For Pakistan, Ali Usman took 4 wickets for 39 runs, while Sajid Khan also claimed 4 wickets for just 32 runs.
Chasing a modest target of 75 runs in their second innings, Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq (9) at a score of 15. They also lost Azaan Owais (18) at 42 runs. However, captain Babar Azam, along with Abdullah Shafique, formed a crucial partnership, securing a comfortable victory for the team.
