Jagran correspondent, Haridwar: With Panchak over, the Kanwar Mela has entered its second phase. Now, under the second phase of the traffic plan, heavy vehicles have been completely banned from the DelhiHaridwar highway.
To maintain smooth traffic during the mela, the police issued a detailed traffic plan, which is being implemented in phases. Under the plan, heavy vehicles were only allowed on the highway from 12 midnight to 4 am until August 4. Now, heavy vehicles are completely banned from August 5, until August 11.
Check Diversions
Crowds are expected to increase from August 7. Vehicles coming to Haridwar will then be completely diverted from Mangalore to Laksar. From there, they will be parked in the Bairagi Camp and the grounds behind the Daksh Temple via Kankhal. However, even now, vehicles are being intermittently diverted from Mangalore to Laksar and sent to Haridwar.
But if the crowd increases, there is a preparation to implement 100 per cent diversion anytime till August 7. SSP Navneet Singh has appealed to the devotees and other travellers to follow the prescribed route, parking and traffic diversion. Commuters are advised to check information about the traffic plan to avoid inconvenience.
Routes have been fixed for vehicles coming from Delhi, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Mangalore, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Saharanpur, Dehradun, Rishikesh, Nainital and Najibabad. Separate routes have been fixed for Kanwar vehicles.
Kanwar vehicles coming from Saharanpur and Yamunanagar will reach Bairagi Camp parking via Mandawar, Saliyar Chowk, Abdul Kalam Chowk, Nagla Imarti, Laksar and SM Tiraha. In case of increased traffic pressure, Kanwar vehicles coming from Delhi, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar will be sent to Bairagi Camp parking via Rampur Tiraha, Kolki Toll Plaza, Bardkalan, Mandawar through this route.
Parking Arrangement
Kanwar vehicles coming from Moradabad, Bijnor and Najibabad will be parked in Gaurishankar and Neeldhara parking via Chidiyapur, Gandikhata. Kanwar vehicles coming from Dehradun and Rishikesh will be sent to Bat Tapu and Laljiwala parking via Nepali Tiraha, Saptarishi Tiraha and Doodhdhari flyover. All Kanwar vehicles parked at Bairagi Camp will be evacuated to the highway via Shamshan Ghat Bridge, Shriyantra Bridge, Budhi Mata Tiraha, Deshrakshak and Singhdwar.
Separate Parking For Roadways And Private Buses
Separate arrangements will also be in place for roadways and private buses. Buses arriving from Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana will be diverted via the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway via Mandawar and Abdul Kalam Chowk to Rishikul Ground or designated parking. Buses from Dehradun and Rishikesh will operate to Motichur Parking, while buses on the Najibabad route will be diverted to Neeldhara and Gaurishankar Parking. All buses operating between Delhi and Dehradun will use the expressway.
