When Deepika Padukone ‘hurled abuses’ at vendor from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s balcony

Veteran actor and acting coach Jayati Bhatia recalled a surprising exercise from actor Deepika Padukone’s preparations for Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. She revealed that the actor once hurled abuses from a balcony at Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office as part of a workshop.

Describing the moment in an interview with Siddharth Kannan for his YouTube channel, Jayati shared that she asked Deepika to stand on a balcony overlooking a local bhel stall to vent built-up anger.

“I told her, ‘Stand there. Don’t look at anyone, but abuse the man below as loudly as you can,'” Jayati said, highlighting that after she demonstrated, Deepika stepped up without hesitation.

“And where I had stopped, she continued with another 50 abuses that I had never even heard before. Not for a second did she worry that someone might look up or recognise her. By then, she was already but she had absolutely no fear,” the veteran actor added.

Jayati mentioned that the moment showcased how fearless Deepika had become following her performance in Cocktail.

Recalling their initial meeting at the director’s office, Jayati revealed that Deepika approached the workshop with total dedication, effectively wrapping up a planned seven-day process in just four days. She emphasised that although Deepika was going through depression at the time, her unwavering focus made it imperceptible.

After witnessing her commitment during the exercise, Jayati informed the filmmaker that the actor was fully ready for the role, telling him. “After four days, I told Mr. Bhansali, ‘Sir, you don’t need to open her up anymore’. She really wanted to do the film,” J she concluded.
