Mrunal Thakur, has become the latest Indian celebrity to take a stand against the misuse of artificial intelligence. As deepfake videos and AI-generated content continue to spread across social media, concerns over identity theft and digital manipulation have only grown. The Sita Ramam actor has now issued a stern public warning, making it clear that anyone creating or sharing fake content using her likeness could face legal consequences. Her statement comes amid a growing number of celebrities such as Rukmini Vasanth, Rashmika Mandanna, Priyanka Mohan sharing details of AI misuse.

Mrunal Thakur took to Instagram to issue a warning against the creation and circulation of AI-generated deepfakes using her image. Calling the practice ‘illegal and unacceptable’, the actor stated that any unauthorised use of her identity would invite legal action. In her Instagram Story,  wrote that creating or sharing deepfake content featuring her likeness was unlawful and served as a formal notice for those involved to stop immediately. She warned that any further misuse of her identity would result in legal proceedings.

Mrunal Thakur joins a growing list of Indian celebrities who have spoken out against the misuse of AI. Actors including  , Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Kartik Aaryan and Suniel Shetty have either approached courts or taken legal steps to safeguard their image, voice and personality rights.

One of the biggest turning points in India celebrity deepfake issue came after Rashmika Mandanna’s manipulated video went viral online. The actor had described the incident as ‘extremely scary’ and urged authorities to take action against the threat of AI-generated misinformation.

Despite recent releases such as Dacoit and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai receiving mixed responses, Mrunal Thakur has an ambitious line up of films. She is currently part of Atlee’s highly anticipated action drama Raaka, which stars Allu Arjun, Deepika Padukone and Rashmika Mandanna in key roles. According to reports, Raaka will unfold across two timelines, one set during the Puranic or Vedic era centred on tribal civilisation, and another in contemporary times featuring a divine warrior restoring balance to the universe. The film is reportedly being mounted on a massive budget of around Rs 1,000 crore, although the makers are yet to officially confirm the figure or its reported December 2027 release. She was also seen in films such as Family Star and Hi Nanna.
