Brazilian football star Neymar Jr has admitted that he has not yet decided on his future in club football after his current contract with Santos is set to expire at the end of the year.
The 34-year-old forward said his immediate priority is to complete his commitment with Santos before considering whether to extend his career, move to another club or retire from professional football.
Neymar returned to Santos after a spell away from Brazilian football and remains an important figure for the club, which is currently fighting to avoid relegation. His future has attracted significant attention following his decision to step away from international football after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament marked the end of his Brazil career, with the national team suffering a last-16 exit after a 2-1 defeat to Norway.
Speaking on his YouTube channel during the Neymar Jr. Institute auction, the forward said he was uncertain about how long he would continue playing. He stressed that he is not currently planning retirement but wants to focus on finishing his contract with Santos before making any major decisions. Neymar said he would evaluate his options after December, including the possibility of staying with Santos, joining another club or ending his playing career.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star also reflected positively on his career, saying he has no regrets about his journey in football. Neymar stated that he feels physically stronger with each match and remains motivated to improve despite being in the final stages of his career. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities and achievements he has experienced throughout his time at the highest level of the sport.
Neymar remains one of Brazil’s most successful footballers and the country’s all-time leading goalscorer. His return to the national team for the 2026 World Cup came after an absence of nearly three years, but his participation was limited to 37 minutes across two matches. Although he scored from the penalty spot during the tournament, he could not prevent Brazil’s early elimination.
With several months remaining before his Santos contract expires, Neymar’s next move remains uncertain. The football world will now closely follow whether the Brazilian icon chooses to continue playing, remain with his boyhood club or bring an end to a career that has included domestic titles, international records and major achievements across European and South American football.
