Assam floods: At least two people have died as flashfloods devastated parts of Assam. The death toll had risen to 87 in the northeastern state.
Over 1.28 lakh people have been affected by the landslides, according to a bulletin published on Monday.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that the two deaths were reported in the Sivasagar district. Seven districts, including Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Biswanath, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur, are still reeling with floods. The Indian Meteorological Department said that the maximum temperature in the state is expected to rise up to 29 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to fall to 26 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, Assam is expected to experience heavy thunderstorms, high humidity, and wet monsoon conditions.
Kerala CM Announces Compensation
The death toll in Kerala has risen to 15 on Monday, due to relentless rains and flood-related incidents in the past few days. Seven people are still missing. The Chief Minister announced a compensation of 10,000 rupees for the funeral of those killed in rain-related incidents. After a meeting with all district collectors in Thiruvananthapuram, Satheesan said that approximately 165 hectares of agricultural land had been damaged, affecting 3,596 farmers.
The Kerala government has decided to hike compensation for farmers who suffered crop losses, and the matter will be discussed in the next cabinet meeting. Teams of the NDRF and security forces have been deployed in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and other areas of the state.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for 10 districts in the state. A yellow alert has been issued for four districts. Due to the heavy rains in the state, district collectors have declared a holiday for all educational institutions in 12 districts.
