New Delhi, August 4: Puneet Manohar has clinched the doubles title at the 49th ‘International Deutsche Tennismeisterschaften Under-14’ held in Düren, Germany.
This event is highly regarded in the junior circuit and is one of the five prestigious tournaments classified as ‘Tennis Europe Super Category.’
Partnering with ‘s Minjiyon Choi, Puneet showcased exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the tournament. Representing the World Tennis/ATF GSPDP (Grand Slam Player Development Program) touring team, this Indo-Korean duo delivered impressive performances in a challenging draw.
After advancing from the ‘Round of 32’, they excelled in the ‘Round of 16’, defeating Thailand’s Punnapat Nimanunakul and Korea’s Him Wong in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Maintaining their momentum, Puneet and Minjiyon exhibited remarkable courage and court movement in the next round. In the quarter-finals, they overcame a tough challenge from Colombia’s Matthias Lanos Astudillo and Argentina’s Manuel Paniagua Alexeniser, winning 6-4, 6-2.
The duo secured their spot in the championship match with a stunning semi-final victory against the Italian pair of Ulysses Bari and Ruggero Condorelli, winning 6-4, 6-2. Competing as part of the GSPDP touring team, Puneet and his Korean partner claimed the title at the 49th ‘International Deutsche Tennismeisterschaften Under-14’ in Düren.
In the grand final, they faced Mexico’s Patricio Alvarez Chavez and Brazil’s Vitor Marques Moares. Puneet and Minjiyon started aggressively, taking an early lead of 1-0 in the first set when their opponents had to withdraw from the title match. This swift conclusion officially secured a memorable and well-deserved European title for the Indo-Korean duo.
