The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Indian-origin American cricketer Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy from all forms of cricket for eight years after being found guilty by the ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal on Monday.
Akhilesh Reddy was booked for cases related to the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 tournament in the UAE, where ICC served as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) on behalf of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).
While the exact incident that led to the suspension wasn’t revealed, the cricketer has been found guilty of the following breaches under the code.
Article 2.1.1: Attempting to fix, contrive, or otherwise improperly influence the result, progress, conduct, or other aspect of matches in the ADT10 2025.
Article 2.1.4: Soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging, or intentionally facilitating another participant to breach Article 2.1.1 of the Code in one or more matches during the tournament.
Article 2.4.7: Obstructing the DACO’s investigation through the deletion of data and messages from a mobile device which may have been relevant to the inquiry.
ICC released a statement to confirm the development. “USA player Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy has been banned from all cricket for eight years after he was found guilty by an ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal of breaching three counts of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code,” the ICC said.
Who Is Akhilesh Reddy
Akhilesh was raised in Hyderabad and was once part of the state’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad in 2020/21 season. He also served as an IPL net bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The right-hand spin bowling all-rounder moved to American cricket in a hunt for better opportunities. He was able to make his debut for the USA team and even played four T20Is, where he picked a wicket. He made his debut against the Cayman Islands in the North America T20 Cup.
Second American Cricketer To Be Suspended
Earlier, USA stalwart Aaron Jones, who was part of the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, was also provisionally suspended for alleged fixing during the BIM10 league in Barbados during the 2023-24 season. He was charged with five breaches of anti-corruption codes related to match-fixing and obstructing an investigation.
