New Delhi: SC has dismissed a review petition filed by CPIM leader Brinda Karat which sought a review of its April 29 decision to give a clean chit to senior BJP leaders and Parvesh Verma and refusing to order FIR against them for alleged hate speech in 2020 against people opposing CAA. The order passed on July 29 was uploaded on SC website late last night.
“Application for listing the present review petition in open court is rejected.. We have gone through the review petition as well as the grounds in support thereof. We do not find any error, much less apparent, in the order impugned, warranting its reconsideration. The Review Petition shall stand dismissed accordingly, SC Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said in its order dismissing the review petition.
Dismissing Brinda Karat’s appeal on April 29, SC had agreed with opinion of Delhi HC that “no cognizable offence is made out “Karat had drawn attention of High Court and SC to alleged slogan by Thakur: ” desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaron saalon ko”.
While disposing of a batch of complaints related to hate speeches saying “no further directions were required or new legal mechanisms were required as no “legislative vacuum” existed, SC on April 29 also dismissed petitions filed seeking FIR against Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Varma too relating alleged hate speeches made in 2020.
