Colombo, August 2: The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team delivered an impressive performance, defeating Pakistan by 6 wickets. Chasing a target of 176 runs at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, the Sri Lankan team achieved their goal in just 17.4 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process.
With this victory, the hosts secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
Sri Lanka’s innings did not start well, as Iesha Dulanthi, who scored a century in the previous match, was dismissed for just 5 runs. However, captain Chamari Athapaththu and Sanjana Kavindi took charge, adding 44 runs for the second wicket in just 22 balls. Athapaththu played a powerful innings, scoring 40 runs off only 15 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes. Sanjana contributed significantly as well, scoring 46 runs from 24 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes before getting out.
Vishmi Gunaratne also showed good form, contributing 31 runs off 29 balls, while Harshitha Samarawickrama remained unbeaten with 37 runs off 22 balls, leading her team to victory. Harshitha hit 8 fours in her innings, and Kavisha Dilhari finished not out with 14 runs. For Pakistan, Umme Hani was the standout bowler, claiming 2 wickets.
Earlier, Pakistan had a solid start, thanks to captain Muniba Ali and Shawaal Zulfiqar, who put together a partnership of 90 runs for the first wicket. Muniba scored 45 runs off 30 balls before being dismissed, while Zulfiqar made 48 runs, aided by 8 fours. Iman Nasir contributed 21 runs, and Ayesha Zafar was out for 8 runs.
Saira Jabeen added 16 runs, while Iman Fatima finished not out with 30 runs off 19 balls in the closing overs. For Sri Lanka, Chamodi Prabodha was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 27 runs in her 4-over spell, while Athapaththu and Kavisha Dilhari each took 1 wicket.
