Moments after ,Jaismine Lamboria made sure the party continued by adding another gold medal in the sport at the ongoing tournament.
Lamboria, who competes in the women’s 57 kg category, dethroned Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh by a unanimous decision on Saturday and gave India a top-podium finish at the marquee tournament.
Lamboria gained control of the game right in the beginning and maintained her dominance throughout the contest. She delivered sharp combinations, superior movement and clean punches to keep her rival on the back foot. However, towards the end of the clash, Walsh kept challenging the ultimate winner but the Indian boxer maintained her composure to end up with a win. Three judges scored the bout 29-28, while the remaining two scored 30-27.

Jaismine Lamboria, who cruised to the final of the tournament after getting the better of Lesotho’s Rapelang Maselela in the semis, is India’s first Army boxer. Born in Haryana’s Bhiwani, the 24-year-old comes from a family that has deep roots in sports. Her great-grandfather Hawa Singh has been an Asia Games gold medallist while her uncles Sandeep Singh and Parvinder Singh have also had successful boxing careers.
It didn’t take her much to make her mark at the national and international levels. Moreover, she scored a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham. Lamboria became the first female boxer to be inducted into the Indian Army, joining the Corps of Military Police and training under its prestigious Mission Olympics Wing.
