New Delhi, August 1: Indian women boxers made a remarkable impact at the , clinching two gold medals in just 30 minutes.
Following Preeti Pawar’s victory, Jasmin Lamboria showcased her prowess in the ring. Preeti triumphed in the women’s 54 kg category, defeating Canada’s Scarlett Savannah Delgado with a decisive 5-0 score in the final bout. Meanwhile, Jasmin secured her title in the women’s 57 kg category by overpowering Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh, also with a 5-0 victory.
In the first match of the day at SEC Hall-5, Preeti dominated against England’s Scarlett Savannah Delgado, winning 5-0. All five judges awarded her 10 points in the first round. Preeti continued her strong performance in the second round, again receiving full marks from the judges.
Throughout the second round, Preeti maintained a significant advantage over her English opponent. Her punches were powerful, while Delgado struggled to land effective hits. In the third round, Preeti aimed to tire out her opponent, having already built a substantial lead. She showcased her strength once more, earning 10 points from all five judges to secure the gold medal.
Preeti Pawar had previously defeated Malawi’s Debora Mtengze in the Round of 16 by referee stop contest (RSC). She then won the quarter-finals against Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde with a 5-0 score. After another 5-0 victory over Zambia’s Catherine Mwape in the semi-finals, she achieved the same margin in the final against the Canadian boxer.
On the other hand, Jasmin Lamboria also claimed victory in the women’s 57 kg category against Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh, winning 5-0. The first round was closely contested, ending 3-2 in Jasmin’s favor. However, she dominated in the subsequent rounds, winning the third round 4-1 and securing India’s seventh gold medal.
With this success, India has reached sixth place in the medal tally, boasting a total of 25 medals: 7 gold, 12 silver, and 6 bronze.
