Roston Chase, the captain of the West Indies Test team, has expressed the squad’s commitment to enhancing their home performance, aiming to transform the Caribbean into a ‘fortress’ for visiting teams as they gear up to face Pakistan in the second Test.
During a press conference at Queen’s Park Oval on Friday, Chase reflected on the team’s aspirations following a challenging 2025 season, where they managed to secure only one victory out of nine Tests. He stated, ‘After last year’s performance, we convened to outline our objectives. We are now precisely where we aim to be and are focused on elevating our game.’
Focus on Execution in Second Test
Chase emphasized the necessity for his players to remain vigilant and not take the upcoming match lightly. He highlighted the importance of adhering to their strategic plans, saying, ‘As we approach the second Test, we must not assume anything. We need to follow through on the strategies we’ve discussed and execute them to the best of our abilities to secure that second win.’
The captain also conveyed his contentment with the team’s recent performances at home, asserting their desire to create a formidable home advantage that makes it challenging for visiting teams to triumph in the Caribbean. ‘We feel fortunate and pleased with our home results thus far. Our goal is to establish our home as a fortress, making it tough for teams to beat us here, as we are familiar with our conditions better than they are,’ he remarked.
‘We aim to capitalize on our home advantage, and we have been performing well in that regard. We hope to maintain our current form and achieve victory in this second match,’ Chase concluded.
Pakistan Faces Setback with Shan Masood’s Injury
In a significant setback for Pakistan, Shan Masood has been ruled out of the second Test against the West Indies due to a finger injury. This injury poses a serious challenge to Pakistan’s efforts to equalize the series.
Masood sustained the injury during the first Test in Trinidad when he was hit on the finger by a delivery from Jayden Seales during Pakistan’s first innings, which ultimately led to a 90-run defeat for the West Indies.
In the first Test, Masood scored 109 runs in one innings and only 3 in another. The second Test is set to begin at Queen’s Park Oval on Sunday, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also indicated that Masood’s availability for the upcoming Test series against England starting August 19 is uncertain.
