The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain and thunderstorm alert for 19 states on August 1, 2026, warning of widespread rainfall, gusty winds, and possible weather-related disruptions over the next 24 hours.
States including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. At the same time, farmers and fishermen have been advised to remain cautious. The IMD has also warned of an increased risk of landslides in hilly regions.
Active Monsoon to continue across a large section of northern, central and northeastern India with widespread thunderstorms and heavy showers in many locations. Heavy rain to pour over certain pockets of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, whereas scattered extremely heavy rain in a few isolated locations.
States Under Rain Alert
The IMD said rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. The department warned of a 4-6 degrees Celsius drop in temperatures in some areas, while conditions may worsen in some pockets of the Northeast.
Delhi-NCR Weather
Delhi-NCR might experience normal monsoon conditions on August 1, with cloudy weather conditions and light rain or drizzle across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius, with the minimum around 28 degrees Celsius. The IMD has predicted heavy rain with thunderstorms in several regions, with winds to be strong up to 50 kmph.
Gujarat Weather
IMD has given a red alert for 13 districts in Gujarat for possible extremely heavy rainfall, along with an orange alert for 7 districts that might experience heavy rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy spells on August 1, is anticipated in Ahmedabad and Anand, along with Saurashtra’s Surendranagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, and Botad districts.
Himachal Pradesh Weather
Active monsoon is expected to resume in Himachal Pradesh, with heavy rains anticipated in multiple districts. Landslides, flash floods and road blockages are a risk due to persistent downpour, especially in the higher altitude regions of Shimla, Kullu and Mandi. The state’s road network was already affected due to earlier rains, and an extended period of wet weather is forecast by IMD.
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh could see up to 60 kmph wind speeds, along with hailstorm warnings in some areas.
Maharashtra Weather
Monsoon activity will continue in several parts of Maharashtra with scattered light to moderate rain to heavy rains over parts of Konkan, Mumbai and Central Maharashtra. Possibility of isolated thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy downpour also present.
Uttar Pradesh Weather
Several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Saharanpur, Meerut, Agra, Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Varanasi, are on alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Gusty winds of up to 55 kmph are expected, with temperatures in Lucknow likely to range from 28 to 33 degrees Celsius.
Bihar Weather
A yellow alert has been issued for Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Purnia, and several other districts of Bihar. Thunderstorms accompanied by winds of up to 60 kmph are likely. In Patna, temperatures are expected to remain between 28 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir are also expected to witness heavy rainfall and strong winds.
