Chennai Super Kings have reportedly called players for a fitness camp before making IPL 2027 retention, release, and trade decisions as the franchise begins a major squad overhaul.
CSK Fitness Camp for IPL 2027: Chennai Super Kings are already looking ahead to IPL 2027 after another season that did not go well for them. The five-time champions have struggled badly since their title win in 2023 under MS Dhoni, and the 2026 season was another poor one. CSK won only six of their 14 league matches and finished eighth on the table. It was also the first time in the franchise’s history that they missed the playoffs for three straight seasons.
The team has also gone through a major coaching change. After IPL 2026, CSK and Stephen Fleming mutually parted ways after an 18-year association. Fleming had been one of the biggest reasons behind the team’s success over the years, helping CSK win five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies.
Fitness Camp Before the Big Calls
Now CSK are taking the next step in their rebuild. As reported by Revsportz journalist Rohit Juglan, the franchise has planned a two- to three-day fitness camp for all available players. The idea is to check the fitness of the squad before the team makes final decisions on retentions, releases, and possible trades. Juglan wrote, “All CSK players have been called up for a 2-3 day fitness camp just before the final decisions on retentions, releases, and trades are made.”
Every player has been asked to join the camp according to his schedule. The camp should help the management understand who is ready to stay in the long plan and who may not fit the team’s future shape. In simple terms, CSK want to know which players are fit, which ones are in form, and which ones may be moved out before the next season starts.
Big Names Under Review
Some players are expected to face close checks before CSK make final calls. Reports say the franchise will review big-money buys like Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer, who were each bought for ₹14.20 crore in the IPL 2026 auction. Their performances have not fully matched the price tag so far, so the management is likely to study their cases carefully.
There are also reports that Rahul Chahar, Matt Henry, and Matthew Short could be among the players who may be released as CSK try to build a stronger and more balanced side for IPL 2027. At the same time, trade chatter has also linked CSK and Mumbai Indians in talks involving Hardik Pandya, with reports mentioning Shivam Dube, Ayush Mhatre, and Dewald Brevis in different possible deal scenarios.
