Suzuki has taken the wraps off the updated XL7 at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) to offer the clearest indication yet of where the Maruti Suzuki XL6 could be headed. While Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed an India launch, the XL7 and XL6 have historically shared the same basic architecture and many design cues. The Indonesian model now wears a fresh face, packs more equipment inside and introduces a handful of technology upgrades. If Maruti follows its usual product strategy, some of these updates could eventually make their way to the XL6 sold through Nexa dealerships in India.
Fresh Look, Familiar Formula
At first glance, the XL7 still looks like the same crossover-style MPV but Suzuki has made enough changes to give it a more contemporary appearance. The front bumper has been redesigned, the grille has been reworked and the LED lighting signatures have been updated. New alloy wheels and subtle revisions at the rear complete the exterior refresh.

Step inside and the changes become more noticeable. The dashboard now houses a larger infotainment display while the instrument cluster and centre console have also been revised. Depending on the Indonesian variant, buyers also get features such as a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, connected functions as well as Suzuki Safety Support, which is the brand’s ADAS package.
The six-seat layout with second-row captain seats remains unchanged which is one of the defining characteristics shared by the XL7 and India-spec XL6.
What Could Come To India?
There is no official word from on an XL6 facelift, so any India-specific details remain speculative. However, previous model updates suggest that the Indonesian XL7 has often previewed styling themes later adopted by the XL6.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the Indian model will be identical. Maruti Suzuki typically tweaks features and specifications to suit local demand and pricing. Some equipment available overseas may not be offered here while India-specific additions are also possible.
Mechanically, the Indonesian XL7 continues with a naturally aspirated petrol engine. If the XL6 is updated, it is widely expected to continue with Maruti Suzuki’s 1.5-litre K15C Smart Hybrid petrol engine although the company has not announced any changes to the powertrain.
Should Buyers Wait?
The current XL6 has been on sale for several years and remains one of the few premium MPVs in India with second-row captain seats. However, the unveiling of the revised XL7 suggests that a refresh for the Indian model is becoming more likely.
If you need a family car immediately, the existing XL6 continues to offer the same practicality and mechanical package buyers are already familiar with. But if your purchase is still a few months away, it may be worth waiting for Maruti Suzuki’s next move. Based on what Suzuki has revealed in Indonesia, the focus is expected to be on updated styling, a more modern cabin and additional convenience features instead of a completely new platform or engine.
