In the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday, Indian team captain Shubman Gill has reclaimed his position as the world’s number one batsman in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
Additionally, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made significant strides in the T20 rankings.
Following India’s 3-0 victory in the T20 series against Zimbabwe, Vaibhav surged 230 places in the latest T20 International rankings. The 15-year-old has now entered the top 50, having scored 151 runs at an average of 50.33 in the three matches against Zimbabwe, earning him the title of ‘Player of the Series.’ With 536 rating points, Vaibhav has achieved his career-best ranking at 48th.
Ishan Kishan remains the top batsman in the shortest format of cricket, boasting 910 rating points. Tilak Varma has climbed two spots to sixth, while Shreyas Iyer has moved up seven places to 24th. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has also seen a significant boost, jumping 31 spots to 41st after taking three wickets in the Zimbabwe series.
Despite losing the series, several Zimbabwean players have benefited from the latest rankings. Ryan Burl has risen six places to a joint 85th in the T20 International batting rankings, while fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has climbed ten spots to 26th in the bowling rankings.
In the ODI format, Shubman Gill has taken over the number one spot from New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who had held the position since January but has not played in recent international matches, allowing the Indian opener to ascend to the top once again.
Changes were also observed in the ODI bowling rankings, with Namibia’s left-arm spinner Bernard Scholtz making his way into the top seven after consistent performances in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series held in Utrecht against Nepal and the Netherlands.
