New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to renew the contracts of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip, marking the beginning of changes to the Indian men’s coaching staff following the team’s recent overseas performances.
The decision comes after India’s disappointing tours of Ireland and England, where the team lost two T20 International series and an ODI series. The board had been expected to review the team’s support staff following those results.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that both coaches completed their contractual terms earlier this year. Ryan ten Doeschate’s two year contract ended on June 10, while T Dilip’s one year extension concluded on June 8. Although both remained with the squad until the end of India’s tour of the United Kingdom, the board has decided against offering further extensions.
The BCCI clarified that the duo did not resign from their positions, stating that their contracts had simply expired and would not be renewed.
Attention has now shifted to the appointment of a new fielding coach. While Subhodeep Ghosh, who has worked within the BCCI system for several years, has emerged as a leading contender, the board said discussions are ongoing with multiple candidates before a final decision is made.
Ghosh has been associated with Indian cricket since the tenure of Rahul Dravid at the National Cricket Academy and is considered one of the frontrunners for the role.
The coaching overhaul is expected to continue as the BCCI evaluates the team’s structure ahead of a busy international calendar. The board is looking to strengthen the support staff after India’s recent struggles in overseas white ball cricket while preparing the team for upcoming assignments.
The appointments to the coaching staff are expected to be finalised in the coming weeks as India begins preparations for its next international series.
