The BCCI Men’s Selection Committee has announced India’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, appointing with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain.
Before the main series, the visitors will feature in a four-day warm-up fixture in Colombo starting August 7.
The two-Test series kicks off with the opening match at the Galle International Cricket Stadium (GICS) from August 15 to 19, before moving to the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo for the second Test from August 23 to 27.
Lead bowler Jasprit Bumrah features in the squad, though his inclusion remains conditional on receiving fitness clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE). Similarly, batter B Sai Sudharsan’s participation relies on passing a fitness test at the COE.
Spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the opening Test owing to a hamstring issue, prompting a maiden Test call-up for Saransh Jain as his replacement in the squad.
On the other hand, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja marks his comeback after recovering from a tennis elbow injury sustained during the 2026 Indian Premier League in May, reinforcing India’s spin department in spin-friendly subcontinental conditions.
The squad also features Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, and Devdutt Padikkal.
This two-match series counts towards the ongoing 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle. India currently occupy the fifth spot on the WTC table, holding four wins, four losses, and one draw across nine fixtures. Under Gill’s leadership, India have accumulated 52 points with a points percentage (PCT) of 48.15%.
India were last in action on the Test circuit for their one-off match against Afghanistan last month. India secured an innings win against Afghanistan with captain Shubman Gill scoring a ton and debutant Manav Suthar taking a five-fer in the first innings.
