The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has approved Spider-Man: Brand New Day for release in India with a UA 13+ certificate after directing a few modifications to the film.
The Marvel Studios production is scheduled to hit Indian theatres on July 30, a day before its global release.
According to the CBFC certificate issued on July 23, the English-language 3D version of the film with English subtitles has been cleared with a final runtime of 144 minutes and 52 seconds. The certification document noted that the board approved the movie after certain changes were made as per its guidelines.
The CBFC instructed the makers to add a statutory anti-liquor disclaimer to the film. The board also directed the removal and muting of certain obscene words from both the audio track and subtitles at three separate points. These dialogue changes did not impact the overall runtime of the movie.
In addition, two kissing scenes in the film, appearing around the 44-minute and 57-minute marks, were deleted. The total duration of the visual cuts amounts to eight seconds, after which the approved version received clearance for theatrical release in India.
The UA 13+ certification means viewers below the age of 13 can watch the film with parental guidance. The certification comes as part of the CBFC’s review process for films before their public release in the country.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the 38th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the fourth instalment in the MCU’s Spider-Man film series. The movie stars Tom Holland in the lead role, alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and other prominent actors.
